Re-read: Baptism by Fire by Gwen Erkonen

This week’s post features Creative Nonfiction from one journal which has quietly evolved into a leading literary magazine in the genre. Founded in the summer of 2011, Hippocampus is the brainchild of  publisher Donna Talarico.  Starting off as a monthly online journal, Hippocampus introduced an annual conference based out of Lancaster, PA in 2015. Past keynote and featured speakers have included Tobias Wolff, Mary Karr, Beverly Donofrio, Lee Gutkind, Dinty W. Moore, Ashley C. Ford, and Jane Friedman. In 2016, Hippocampus announced the addition a publishing branch to its operations, debuting the anthology Selected Memories: Five Years of Hippocampus Magazine.  In 2018, their first single-author books are projected for release (By the Forces of Gravity: A Memoir by Rebecca Fish Ewan and Dig: A Personal Prehistoric Journey by Sam Chiarelli).
