Re-read: Maggie Nelson Interview (LA Times)

When the MacArthur Fellows were announced earlier this month, it wasn’t a surprise to see Maggie Nelson’s named alongside poet Claudia Rankine. This interview from the LA Times, was especially interesting when Maggie Nelson, a 2016 MacArthur Foundation Fellow, discusses letting each book dictate what it needs. In her own words,  “You’ve just got to do what each book demands.” I also loved her comments on teaching and needing something in her life besides writing: as she says, “It’s good for me to show up somewhere from time to time.” Her writing is so unique and intimate, and I loved seeing her thoughts on her own aesthetic.
